Speakbound

How it works

1. Paste your speech, presentation, or poem.
2. Hide some of the words using one of the five hiding modes.
3. Recite it out loud. Speakbound marks the words you dropped.
4. Rehearse against your real time slot with the built-in timer.

Hiding modes

There are five: first letter, random words, whole lines, fill in the blanks, and progressive. All five are included on every plan, including the free one, along with read-back, the rehearsal timer, and spaced repetition.

Scoring

Speakbound scores word by word — whether you said the right words, not how you sounded. The free plan includes 10 scored recitations; Speakbound Pro makes them unlimited.

Working offline

Your library, the hiding modes, and the timer never need a signal, so they work on a plane or backstage.

Nothing is recorded and no audio reaches us. Speakbound asks your phone to transcribe on-device. On the rare occasions it can't, the app tells you on screen.

Troubleshooting

Speakbound isn't hearing me

• Open the iOS Settings app, find Speakbound, and check that both Microphone and Speech Recognition are allowed.
• Check nothing else is using the microphone — end any call or recording first.
• If you're wearing headphones, make sure their microphone is the one you expect.

It marked a word as missed that I'm sure I said

Scoring depends on your phone transcribing what it hears. Background noise, speaking very quickly, and words that sound like other words are the usual causes. Try a quieter room and a normal speaking pace. If a specific word is consistently wrong, email me the word and the language you're reciting in.

It says it can't transcribe on this device

Your phone handles the on-device transcription, and it can only do that for languages it has installed. Email me the language you're using and your iOS version and I'll take a look.

Plans and purchases

Free gives you 5 texts, all five hiding modes, read-back, the rehearsal timer, spaced repetition, and 10 scored recitations. No ads, and no time limit.

Speakbound Pro adds unlimited scored recitations and unlimited texts: $4.99/month, $19.99/year with a 7-day free trial, or $39.99 once. Backing up your library is free on any plan.

There are no ads on any plan.

Managing a subscription

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel yours in your App Store account settings — Speakbound can't do it for you.

I paid but Pro isn't showing

Purchases are tied to your Apple Account. Make sure you're signed in with the same one you bought with, then restore your purchase from inside the app. If it still doesn't appear, email me.

Refunds

Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds go through them: reportaproblem.apple.com.

Android

Speakbound is on Android too: get it on Google Play. On Android, purchases go through your Google Play account, so manage or cancel a subscription in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions.
